If only life had playback controls

My mind is running a marathon that I would very much like to take a break from. This is small insight into my personal thoughts on what would help the world progress towards better mental health - A Pause.

There are a few things none of us like to talk about on social media. Few things we are too afraid to bare to the world, for, exposing them would portray us as vulnerable. But is it vulnerability to voice thoughts that people struggle with everyday or is it strength?

We are living in a world that runs at the speed of light. Ultra connected to every little happening across the globe in real time, yet pathetically isolated from meaningful human connection and interaction. A world full of opportunities, with no real break to pursue them.

Let’s take a moment to talk about this break. I am not talking about what qualifies as vacation these days, because it is nothing less than stressful to come back to a million unanswered emails and a billion things added to your to-do list. The downside of connectivity is that we never switch off. We never stop playing catch up with the world around us.

Sometimes in life, we question everything around us and everything within us. We wonder what lies ahead and if it makes sense. There are tons of labels for these thoughts – most of which aren’t positive. I will call it introspection. I wish there was a pause button to life, a pause button to freeze time and organize thoughts. I wish I could take a break without feeling stressed that I’m falling behind or guilty that I’m slacking. I don’t care for the rewind or forward playback features, but a pause button would be good right about now. ⏸
